50 per cent of Class V students can't read simple text, only 44 per cent from Class VIII could solve basic arithmetic problems: Report
A report by the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) – 2018 suggests nearly 50 per cent of class V students and 25 per cent Class VIII students studying in government schools across the country cannot read simple texts - letter, words, simple paragraph, or a story with Class II level difficulty. By Standard VIII, the last year of compulsory schooling in India, children are expected not only to have mastered foundational skills but to proceeded well beyond the basic stage.
