Authorities warned of torrential rains and strong winds as a powerful typhoon ripped through Japan on Sunday. Flights and trains were forced to be cancelled, including in the Tokyo area. According to the national broadcaster NHK, mass evacuations were ordered, including for more than 250,000 people in the city of Tokushima on the island of Shikoku.
