Heavy stubble burning in 24 hours deteriorates air quality to alarming levels, 10 areas record 'severe' pollution | 10 points
Delhi witnessed further deterioration of air quality to alarming levels after heavy stubble burning continued in the last 24 hours in neighbouring states, with 10 areas recording "severe" pollution.An overall Air Quality Index of 367 was recorded, which falls in the very poor category, according to data of the Central Pollution Control Board. An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe". Stubble burning leads to increase of PM2.5 (particles in the air with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres) also known as fine particulate matter.
